[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Design Improv is an approach to solving problems that draws on Improv Theatre. It uses a kit of instruction cards (suggesting improv games and techniques) and props (like Velcro shapes and mats) which aid the creation, testing and development of interaction design-related products and services.

After developing Design Improv for my master’s thesis, I created a business and delivered workshops for the Design Council and Hasbro before moving on to work for Vodafone. Since that time it has been picked up and used by University of the Arts , Central Saint Martins college of Art and Design in the product design program. It was recently used to help a team of students win an international design competition sponsored by France Telecom.

The game’s first stage teaches the rules of improvisation; later stages (six in all) each aid a particular design stage (inception, idea-generation, user testing, and so on).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
